Turning Point Tutoring is a small, friendly tutoring company offering Maths, English, and 11+ tuition for children aged 7 to 11, covering the Key Stage 2 phase of primary school.
Lessons are taught in small groups of up to four pupils and cover age‑appropriate content from the National Curriculum. Each lesson begins with a recap and review to establish what learning has been retained from the previous session, allowing any misconceptions to be identified and addressed.
New learning is introduced through live teacher explanation, with clear modelling and examples that allow support to be targeted to individual needs within the group. Lessons include teacher modelling, guided practice, group discussion, and collaborative activities to build confidence in a supportive environment.
Pupils complete adaptive practice questions to reinforce and embed the lesson content, and assessment checks, such as quizzes, are used to monitor understanding. Homework is provided to help children practise and consolidate their learning at home.
English
English lessons are divided into two parts. The first focuses on age‑appropriate reading comprehension, giving children the tools they need to unpick, analyse, and respond to texts accurately. The second part focuses on the development of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, helping to improve each learner’s writing skills through the mastery of the mechanics of writing.
Maths
Maths lessons follow the National Curriculum, with a strong focus on mastering key objectives in number and calculation, before progressing into geometry, statistics, and measurement. Modelling is central to every session, allowing learners to see concepts broken down step‑by‑step so they can develop secure understanding and increasing independence. Through guided practice, discussion, and carefully structured tasks, learners build confidence and fluency in applying mathematical ideas.
11+ Tuition
11+ tuition is delivered in separate Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5 classes, allowing learners to build exam skills gradually and at an age‑appropriate pace. Each session focuses on Verbal Reasoning and Non‑Verbal Reasoning, with some targeted Maths and English content linked to the 11+ exam.The aim is to develop the reasoning strategies, problem‑solving skills, and exam techniques.
